She runaway from home when she was 16 and travel around the world for most of her teen years. After returning to USA she was offered to perform the role of Moira Sweeney, an androgynous computer technician who moves from the Midwest with Jenny (Mia Kirshner). Gia Carangi - Was an American fashion model during the late 1970s and early 1980s.Carangi was considered by some to be the first supermodel. Soon after she moved to New York at the age of 17 she become favourite model for various fashion photographers. In October 1978, Carangi did her first major shoot with top fashion photographer Chris von Wangenheim. He had her pose nude behind a chain-link fence with makeup assistant Sandy Linter. Carangi immediately became infatuated with Linter and started to pursue her, though the relationship never became stable. Around the same time Gia began to develop a heroin addiction that lead to end of her career. She died of AIDS-related complications at age of 26. Since her death, she has been considered a lesbian supermodel and icon and is said to have epitomized "lesbian chic" more than a decade before the term was coined. |
